Salted with Purpose, Shining with Light. Pastor Dave

5 Day Devotional:
Day 1: The Poor in Spirit
Scripture: Matthew 5:3 – “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Reflection: Being “poor in spirit” doesn’t mean having low self-worth, but rather recognizing our spiritual neediness before God. It’s about admitting that we cannot live the Christian life in our own strength and humbly relying on God’s grace. When we come to God with an open heart, willing to receive from Him, we position ourselves to experience His kingdom in a way that prideful self-reliance never will. The poor in spirit acknowledge their dependence on God for everything, from salvation to daily strength. True humility is foundational to following Jesus. It invites us to recognize that we need God’s help in every area of life.
Application: Think about areas of your life where you might be relying on your own strength or abilities rather than trusting in God’s provision. How can you cultivate a spirit of humility in those areas? Today, try to actively surrender your pride and ask God to help you rely more fully on Him.

Day 2: Blessed are Those Who Mourn
Scripture: Matthew 5:4 – “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Reflection: Mourning often comes with loss—whether it’s the death of a loved one, the loss of a dream, or the mourning of sin and brokenness in the world. Jesus promises that those who mourn will find comfort. God is near to those who are brokenhearted, and He offers peace in the midst of grief. Mourning is not just about sadness, but also about acknowledging the brokenness of the world and our longing for redemption. When we mourn, we express our vulnerability, and in that vulnerability, God meets us with His comforting presence. Jesus reminds us that our tears are not in vain, for He will bring healing and restoration.
Application: If you’re grieving or experiencing loss, bring your pain to God today. Ask Him to comfort you and help you find peace, knowing that He is with you in every season of mourning. If you are not currently mourning, look for ways to offer comfort to those who are.

Day 3: Blessed are the Merciful
Scripture: Matthew 5:7 – “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
Reflection: Mercy is a powerful expression of God’s love. It’s not about giving people what they deserve but showing compassion and forgiveness, even when it’s difficult. Jesus tells us that when we extend mercy to others, we will receive mercy in return. God, in His great mercy, has forgiven us for our wrongdoings, and He calls us to do the same with others. Being merciful requires a heart of compassion, a willingness to forgive, and the grace to show kindness even when it’s not earned. Mercy is an active choice we make to reflect God’s love in a hurting world.
Application: Reflect on your relationships today. Are there people you are struggling to forgive or show mercy to? Pray and ask God to help you soften your heart toward them. If there’s someone you need to forgive, take the first step today in showing mercy.

Day 4: Blessed are the Pure in Heart
Scripture: Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Reflection: Purity of heart is about aligning our desires and actions with God’s will. It’s not just about external behavior but cultivating a heart that is devoted to God. When our hearts are pure, they are free from the distractions and impurities of sin. A pure heart seeks after God with a singular devotion, desiring to honor Him above all else. When our hearts are pure, we begin to see God more clearly. We recognize His presence in our lives, and our relationship with Him deepens. Purity allows us to experience the fullness of God’s love and His guidance in our lives.
Application: Examine your heart today. Are there areas where your desires or actions need to align more closely with God’s will? Spend some time in prayer, asking God to purify your heart and give you a deeper desire for Him.

Day 5: Let Your Light Shine
Scripture: Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Reflection: Jesus calls us to be the light of the world. Our lives should reflect His love and truth in a way that illuminates the darkness around us. Just as a city on a hill cannot be hidden, neither should our faith be hidden. When we live out our faith, others see God’s work in us and are drawn to His light. Letting your light shine doesn’t mean being perfect; it means being authentic and faithful in your relationship with Jesus. Our light shines brightest when we love others and serve them with humility. As we do so, we bring glory to God and point others toward Him.
Application: Today, think about ways you can let your light shine. Is there someone you can serve, a conversation you can have, or a way you can show God’s love to others? Let your actions today reflect the light of Christ in you.
