5.4.25 He Restores My Soul (Psalm 23, Week 2) Pastor Dave Goralski

Go Deeper this week with this 5 day devotional
Day 1: Forced to Rest in Green Pastures
Scripture: “He makes me to lie down in green pastures…” – Psalm 23:2a
Devotional Thought: God doesn’t suggest rest—He makes us lie down. Just like a car before a long road trip, we need to fuel-up, rest, get snacks for what lies ahead. But many of us only stop when we crash—emotionally, physically, or spiritually. God, as our Good Shepherd, lovingly forces us to pause, rest, and be restored. Rest is not laziness; it’s preparation for the journey ahead.
Life Application: Schedule a time this week to intentionally rest—put your phone away, sit outside, breathe deeply, and just be. No multitasking. No guilt. Just you and the Shepherd.
Reflection Question: What prevents you from truly resting, and what might God be trying to show you when He “makes” you lie down?
Prayer Prompt: “Lord, help me not to resist the rest You offer. Teach me to value stillness and trust You even when the world demands more.”

Day 2: Sabbath Was God’s Idea First
Scripture: “Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation.” – Leviticus 23:3
Devotional Thought: God Himself rested after creating the world. Jesus regularly withdrew for quiet time. If the Creator of the universe made space for rest, how much more do we need it? The Sabbath isn’t a religious obligation—it’s a gift. It’s God saying, “You don’t have to carry everything alone.” Sabbath helps us break the addiction to busyness.
Life Application: Choose one day or afternoon this week as a mini Sabbath. Turn off notifications. Be present with God and those around you. Reflection Question: What would it take for you to set aside one day a week to stop working and simply enjoy God’s presence and provision?
Prayer Prompt: “Lord, forgive me for filling my schedule so tightly. Teach me to trust You enough to allow myself to rest.”

Day 3: Still Waters, Not Stagnant Ones
Scripture: “He leads me beside the still waters…” – Psalm 23:2b “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.” – John 4:14
Devotional Thought: Still doesn’t mean stagnant. Still waters are quiet, safe, and refreshing—not chaotic or dangerous. Jesus offers us living water. But how often do we try to drink from noisy, crashing waves of culture, technology, or approval? True refreshment comes when we sit quietly with Him.
Life Application: Find your “still waters” place this week—your quiet spot with God. Start with just a few minutes of prayer and silence each day, then increase your time incrementally, you will find reset for your soul.
Reflection Question: Where are you going to quench your thirst? Is it leading to peace or more anxiety?
Prayer Prompt: “Jesus, lead me to the still waters. Let Your voice be louder than the noise around me.”

Day 4: The Restoration of the Worn-Out Soul
Scripture: “He restores my soul…” – Psalm 23:3a “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” – 1 John 1:9
Devotional Thought: God isn’t interested in making us into a showroom peace—He wants to restore us for purpose. Your soul may feel dirty, used, or broken. That’s okay—Jesus specializes in soul restoration. He doesn’t just clean you up; He revives your purpose, heals your wounds, and renews your spirit.
Life Application: Take inventory today: Where is your soul worn out? Invite Jesus into that space. Confess any burdens, guilt, or exhaustion you’re carrying.
Reflection Question: What would restoration look like in this season?
Prayer Prompt: “God, restore the tired parts of me. Wash away the grime and bring back the joy of knowing You.”

Day 5: From Rest to Revival
Scripture: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast…” – Isaiah 26:3
Devotional Thought: Rest leads to revival. When we lie down, drink deeply, and are restored, we become new. The Shepherd doesn’t just want to comfort you—He wants to empower you. After rest comes movement. Your green pasture is not the destination, just the rest stop.
Life Application: Ask God what your next step is after this season of rest. Who can you encourage, serve, or share your restoration story with?
Reflection Question: What part of your life has been made new by Jesus—and where is He calling you next?
Prayer Prompt: “Jesus, thank You for restoring me. Lead me forward with courage, peace, and purpose.”
