4.6.25 “Who do you say I am?” Pastor Dave

Go Deeper with this 5 Day Devotional:
Day 1: What’s in a Name?
Scripture: Exodus 3:14 – “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’”
Devotional Thought: Names carry weight. They carry meaning, identity, and reputation. In the Bible, God reveals His name as “I AM,” or Yahweh—meaning He is eternal, self-existent, and unchanging. He is not limited like us. He just is. That name was so holy that scribes wouldn’t even write it out fully. When you think of God’s name, what kind of reaction do you have? Fear? Awe? Comfort?
Life Application: Ask yourself: What does the name of the LORD mean to me? In your prayers today, speak His name with reverence and recognize His holiness. Begin replacing casual or passive references to God with intentional praise.
Prayer: Lord, Your name is holy and powerful. Help me to know You not only by name, but in truth. Let me reflect Your name well in how I live today. Amen.

Day 2: Who Do You Say I Am?
Scripture: Matthew 16:15-16 – “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Devotional Thought: Peter’s answer to Jesus’ question wasn’t based on rumor or opinion—it was personal, revealed by God. We all must answer this question for ourselves. Jesus isn’t just a teacher, prophet, or figure of history. He is Messiah, Savior, and Lord. Knowing who Jesus is should transform how we live.
Life Application: Take a few minutes to write down your personal answer to Jesus’ question: “Who do you say I am?” If someone asked you to describe Jesus, what would you say?
Prayer: Jesus, You are my Messiah and the Son of the Living God. Let this truth be the rock that shapes my life, my thoughts, and my decisions. Amen.

Day 3: Building on the Rock
Scripture: Matthew 16:18 – “…on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
Devotional Thought: Jesus is not building His church on a man, but on the truth Peter confessed. That truth is unshakable. If we try to build our faith on opinions, culture, or feelings—it won’t last. But if we build on Jesus and God’s revealed Word, our faith will stand.
Life Application: Is your faith built on rock or sand? Identify one area of your life where you’ve been trusting culture or feelings more than Scripture. Ask God to help you rebuild that area on His truth. Prayer: Lord, build my life on Your unchanging truth. Help me to be rooted in Your Word and not swayed by the opinions of the world. Strengthen my foundation in You. Amen.

Day 4: What Will You Do With Jesus?
Scripture: Matthew 27:22 – “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
Devotional Thought: Pilate’s question is one we all must answer. Once we recognize Jesus as Lord and Messiah, we’re faced with a choice: will we follow, ignore, reject, or hide Him? Faith is personal, but it’s never meant to be private.
Life Application: How are you answering Pilate’s question? Are you living as if Jesus is King of your life, or just a Sunday figure? Ask God to show you where you can be more bold in living for Jesus this week. Prayer: Jesus, I don’t want to keep You in my back pocket. Help me to live boldly, as someone who has seen, heard, and been changed by You. I choose to follow You fully. Amen.

Day 5: A New Name, A New Identity
Scripture: Revelation 2:17 – “…I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.”
Devotional Thought: Throughout Scripture, when people encountered God in a life-changing way, their names often changed: Abram to Abraham, Simon to Peter, Saul to Paul. Names reflected identity and calling. In Christ, we too receive a new name and a new identity—beloved, chosen, redeemed.
Life Application: What names or labels have defined you? Today, trade those for the ones God gives: loved, forgiven, daughter/son, called, strong, victorious. Write them out and speak them over your life. Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me a new identity in Christ. I am not who I used to be. Help me walk in the truth of who You say I am. Let Your name be honored through my life. Amen.
