4.26.26 – Ephesians 2 – We Serve In Christ

Saved for a Purpose: A 5-Day Devotional from Ephesians 2

Day 1 — Our former condition…

📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:1–3

💭 Devotional Thought:  Paul doesn’t soften the truth—before Christ, we weren’t just struggling… we were spiritually dead. Sin wasn’t just something we did; it defined our condition. We followed the patterns of the world, influenced by the enemy, and driven by our own desires. This isn’t meant to shame us, but to wake us up to reality. Sin separates, distorts, and ultimately destroys. When we understand how serious our condition was, we begin to appreciate how powerful God’s grace truly is. You can’t fully celebrate being made alive until you recognize you were once dead.

🪞 Reflection:  Where do you see the pull of your old life still trying to influence you today?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord, help me to see clearly who I was apart from You—not to live in guilt, but to better understand the depth of Your grace. Thank You for not leaving me in that condition. Amen.

Day 2 — But God…

📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:4–7 & 2nd Corinthians 5:17

💭 Devotional Thought:  Two of the most powerful words in Scripture: “But God…” When we were dead, lost, and deserving of wrath—God intervened. Not because we earned it, but because of His great love.  God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense—became our story. Through Jesus, we didn’t just get a second chance; we were given a completely new life and identity. We are no longer objects of wrath, but children of God. Let that sink in—this wasn’t a small rescue; it was a total transformation rooted in love.

🪞 Reflection:  How does knowing you are now a child of God reshape the way you view yourself today?

🙏 Prayer:  Father, thank You for Your mercy and love. I didn’t deserve it, but You gave it freely. Help me to live today in the confidence of being Your child. Amen.

Day 3 — Saved for a Purpose

📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:8–10

💭 Devotional Thought:  We are saved by grace, not by works—but we are absolutely saved for good works. It’s easy to get this backwards. We don’t serve to earn God’s love; we serve because we already have it. Our lives are meant to reflect what God has done in us. Like a healthy family where everyone contributes, God’s family is designed for participation. The question isn’t “Do I have to serve?” but “How can I joyfully be part of what God is doing?” Even small acts—encouragement, helping hands, simple obedience—are part of a much bigger picture.

🪞 Reflection:  What is one specific way you can serve someone this week with a willing and joyful heart?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord, thank You that You have given me purpose. Show me where I can serve, and shape my heart to do it with joy, not obligation. Amen.

Day 4 — Brought Near

📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:11–18

💭 Devotional Thought:  We were once far off—but now we’ve been brought near by the blood of Christ. Not only that, but we’ve been brought into a family. In Christ, barriers fall—culture and ethnicity—they no longer define us. We are united as one people under Jesus. This means we don’t just belong to God—we belong with one another. The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation. We are called to love, serve, and walk together in unity and humility.

🪞 Reflection:  Is there someone in your church or community you can move closer to in unity, encouragement, or reconciliation?

🙏 Prayer:  Jesus, thank You for bringing me near. Help me to reflect Your love by building unity with others and treating them as family. Amen.

Day 5 — Citizens and Ambassadors

📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:19–22

💭 Devotional Thought:  You are not who you used to be. You are now a citizen of Heaven and a member of God’s household. That means you carry a new identity—and a new responsibility. You are an ambassador for Christ. Everywhere you go, you represent Him. But you don’t do it alone. You have the support of the body of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit within you. You are a living temple—God is at work in and through you. The question is simple, but direct: Are you living like who you were… or who you are now?

🪞 Reflection:  What would it look like today for you to intentionally live as an ambassador for Christ?

🙏 Prayer:  Father, remind me daily of who I am in You. Help me to live boldly and faithfully as Your representative in everything I do. Amen.
