5 Day devotional to go deeper this week:
Day 1 — A Desire to Follow Jesus
📖 Scripture: Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 3:13–17
💭 Devotional Thought: The Baptist movement was born out of a simple but powerful desire—to follow Jesus more closely. As people began reading Scripture for themselves, they realized that faith was never meant to be a secondhand faith. It wasn’t about tradition alone or relying on someone else to interpret truth for you. It was about a personal relationship with Christ.
When Jesus was baptized, He wasn’t repenting of sin—He was setting an example. His baptism marked the beginning of His public ministry and demonstrated obedience to the Father. Baptism begins with a heart that says, “I want to follow Jesus—not casually, but completely.”
🪞 Reflection: Am I personally pursuing Jesus, or am I relying on someone else’s faith to guide me?
🙏 Prayer: Lord, give me a genuine desire to follow You more closely. Help me not to settle for a surface-level faith, but to seek You personally and wholeheartedly. Amen.
Day 2 — From Belief to Obedience
📖 Scripture: Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 2:38–41
💭 Devotional Thought: Throughout the New Testament, there’s a clear pattern: people believed—and then they were baptized. Baptism is not the starting point of salvation, but the first step of obedience after it.
Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples and baptize them. That’s where you come in… The great commission is an act of obedience rooted in love and trust. It’s saying, “Jesus, I’m not just believing in You privately—I’m following You publicly.”
🪞 Reflection: Am I participating in the great commission? Am I being a disciple who makes disciples of Jesus?
🙏 Prayer: Jesus, help me to not only believe in You but to obey You. Give me courage to take the next step of faith, whatever that may be. Amen.
Day 3 — Buried and Raised with Christ
📖 Scripture: Romans 6:3–11; Colossians 2:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17
💭 Devotional Thought: Baptism is a powerful picture of the Gospel. Going under the water represents being buried with Christ—our old life, our sin, our past. Coming out of the water represents resurrection—new life, new identity, new purpose.
It doesn’t save you—but it shows that you have been saved.
When you rise from the water, you are declaring, “The old me is gone. I belong to Jesus now.” You are identifying fully with Him—His death, His burial, and His resurrection.
🪞 Reflection: Do I truly see myself as a new creation in Christ, or am I still holding onto my old identity?
🙏 Prayer: Father, thank You for making me new through Jesus. Help me to walk daily in that new life and leave my old ways behind. Amen.
Day 4 — A Public Declaration
📖 Scripture: Matthew 10:32–33; Acts 2:41–42
💭 Devotional Thought: Baptism is deeply personal—but it is never private.
It is a public declaration of allegiance to Jesus Christ. It’s standing before others and saying, “I’m with Him.” In a world that often pressures us to stay silent about our faith, baptism is a bold and beautiful proclamation.
But it’s also more than a moment—it’s an entry into a community. In the early church, those who were baptized were immediately joined with other believers. They worshiped together, learned together, and grew together.
Following Jesus means being part of His body—the Church.
🪞 Reflection: Am I willing to openly identify with Jesus, even when it’s uncomfortable?
🙏 Prayer: Lord, give me boldness to stand for You. Help me not to hide my faith, but to live it out openly and faithfully. Amen.
Day 5 — One Family, One Faith
📖 Scripture: John 3:16–18; Galatians 3:28; Acts 10:34–48
💭 Devotional Thought: One of the most beautiful truths about baptism is who it’s for: everyone.
In the New Testament, we see Jews and Gentiles, men and women, rich and poor, religious and rebellious—all coming to faith in Jesus and being baptized. What unites them is not background, culture, or status—but faith in Christ.
Baptism celebrates not only new life, but a new family.
When you are born again, you are adopted into the family of God. Your identity is no longer defined by your past—it is defined by Christ. Baptism becomes a joyful declaration: “I belong to Him, and I belong with His people.”
🪞 Reflection: Do I fully embrace my identity as part of God’s family—and live like I belong?
🙏 Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your family. Help me to live as Your child and to love others as my brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen.
