3.15.26 The God Who Sees

Jesus Wept — 5 Day Devotional

Day 1 — God Sees Your Suffering

📖 Scripture: John 11:1–6; Exodus 3:7

💭 Devotional Thought:  One of the most painful questions people ask in suffering is, “Where were you when I needed you?”  Mary and Martha knew Jesus could help. Yet when Jesus delayed, it may have felt like abandonment.  But Scripture consistently reminds us that God is not distant from our pain.  When we suffer, it can feel as though heaven is silent.

Even when God’s timing is different from ours, His awareness and love never fail.

🪞 Reflection:  Have you ever wondered if God sees or understands your struggles? How does knowing that God sees and knows your suffering change the way you face difficult seasons?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord, thank You for seeing every part of my life, even the pain I sometimes feel alone in. Help me trust that You are aware of my struggles and working in ways I cannot always see. Strengthen my faith to believe that Your timing and plans are good. Amen.

Day 2 — Jesus Shares Our Sorrows

📖 Scripture: John 11:32–36; Hebrews 4:14–16

💭 Devotional Thought:  The shortest verse in the Bible is simple but powerful: “Jesus wept.” These two words reveal something profound about the heart of Christ.

Jesus knew that Lazarus would soon walk out of the tomb. He knew the miracle that was about to take place. Yet standing beside Mary, Martha, and their grieving friends, He wept. His tears were not because He lacked power over death, but because He had compassion for those who were hurting.

Death itself is an enemy—an intrusion into God’s good creation brought about by sin. When Jesus saw the sorrow around Him, He entered into it with deep empathy.  Hebrews 4 reminds us that we have a High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses. Jesus understands grief, sorrow, and pain. When we cry, He is not indifferent—He stands with us in compassion.

🪞 Reflection:  How does it encourage you to know that Jesus understands and shares in human sorrow?

🙏 Prayer:  Jesus, thank You for Your compassion. Thank You that You understand grief and pain. Help me remember that when I am hurting, You are near and You care deeply for me. Amen.

Day 3 — The Power of the Resurrection

📖 Scripture: John 11:38–44

💭 Devotional Thought:  Standing before Lazarus’ tomb, Jesus gave a command that seemed impossible: “Lazarus, come out!” At His word, a man who had been dead for four days walked out of the grave.  This moment revealed the unmatched power of Christ. Death, the greatest enemy of humanity, could not stand before the authority of Jesus. With a single command, life returned.  The raising of Lazarus pointed forward to the day when Christ will call all who belong to Him out from their graves.

🪞 Reflection:  What areas of your life feel hopeless or beyond repair? How might remembering Christ’s power over death bring you hope?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord Jesus, You are the resurrection and the life. Help me trust in Your power even when situations feel impossible. Strengthen my faith to believe that nothing is beyond Your authority. Amen.

Day 4 — God Redeems Our Suffering

📖 Scripture: Romans 8:28; Genesis 50:20; 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

💭 Devotional Thought:  One of the most comforting truths in Scripture is that God can bring good out of even the darkest situations.

Joseph once told his brothers, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” What others intended for harm, God used to save many lives. In the same way, Romans 8:28 tells us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him.  This does not mean suffering is easy or pleasant. But it does mean suffering is never wasted in the hands of God.

Paul also writes that God comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others. Often the very struggles we endure become the means through which we help someone else walk through their pain.

🪞 Reflection:  Can you think of a time when God used a difficult experience in your life to help or encourage someone else?

🙏 Prayer:  Father, thank You that nothing in my life is outside Your ability to redeem. Help me trust that You are working even through hardship. Use my experiences to bring comfort and encouragement to others. Amen.

Day 5 — The Promise of Resurrection

📖 Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–17; John 11:25–26

💭 Devotional Thought:  The story of Lazarus ends with celebration, but it also points to something even greater.  The miracle in Bethany was a preview of the future resurrection promised to all who trust in Christ. Scripture tells us that one day the Lord will return, the trumpet will sound, and the dead in Christ will rise.

Ironically, the miracle that revealed Jesus’ power also set in motion the events that would lead to His crucifixion. The religious leaders decided that Jesus must die. Yet even this dark decision became part of God’s greater plan for salvation.

🪞 Reflection:  How does the promise of resurrection shape the way you think about death, suffering, and eternity?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise of eternal life. Thank You that death is not the end for those who trust in You. Help me live with the hope and confidence of the resurrection each day. Amen.
