Bread of Life — A 5 Day Devotional
Day 1 — Following Jesus… But Why?
📖 Scripture: John 6:1–5
💭 Devotional Thought: When Jesus crossed to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, a large crowd followed Him—not primarily because of His teaching or His call to repentance, but because they had seen the miraculous signs. They followed for what He could do for them.
🪞 Reflection: Why do you follow Jesus? Is it for comfort, help, provision—or because you trust Him as Lord?
🙏 Prayer: Jesus, search my heart. Help me follow You not just for what You give, but for who You are. Teach me to trust Your purposes even when I don’t fully understand them.
Day 2 — Little in Our Hands, Much in God’s
📖 Scripture: John 6:5–15
💭 Devotional Thought: Five loaves and two fish didn’t look like much—but in Jesus’ hands, it was more than enough. A willing heart and a small offering became the means by which thousands were fed, with leftovers to spare. God has always delighted in multiplying faithful obedience. What seems insignificant to us becomes extraordinary when surrendered to Him.
🪞 Reflection: What small offering might God be inviting you to place in His hands today—your time, generosity, obedience, or faith?
🙏 Prayer: Lord, take what I have, however small it feels, and use it for Your glory. Help me trust that You can do far more with it than I ever could on my own.
Day 3 — Fed but Still Hungry
📖 Scripture: John 6:26–34
💭 Devotional Thought: After their stomachs were filled, the crowd came back asking for more. Like the woman at the well, they were still thinking in physical terms—bread that satisfies for a moment. But Jesus was pointing them toward something deeper. Physical provision may quiet hunger temporarily, but only Christ satisfies the soul.
🪞 Reflection: What do you find yourself returning to again and again, hoping it will finally satisfy you?
🙏 Prayer: Jesus, I confess the ways I look to temporary things for lasting fulfillment. Draw me toward what truly satisfies—the life only You can give.
Day 4 — “I Am the Bread of Life”
📖 Scripture: John 6:35
💭 Devotional Thought: Jesus’ declaration—“I am the bread of life”—is woven throughout Scripture. He is the Word made flesh, born in Bethlehem, the “House of Bread,” broken for us at the table of communion. Just as bread sustains physical life, Jesus sustains eternal life. This isn’t symbolic poetry—it’s spiritual reality.
🪞 Reflection: Do you see Jesus as essential for your life—or optional for your faith?
🙏 Prayer: Jesus, help me see You not as a supplement to my life, but as my source. I believe that You alone can sustain me.
Day 5 — What Are You Feeding On?
📖 Scripture: John 6:44–58
💭 Devotional Thought: Just as modern bread can look filling while lacking nourishment, much of what we consume spiritually appears satisfying but leaves us weak. God’s Word, however, is living and sustaining. When we feed on Christ—His truth, His Word, His life—we are strengthened, grounded, and able to stand firm. You truly become what you consume.
🪞 Reflection: What voices, messages, or habits are shaping your spiritual appetite right now?
🙏 Prayer: Father, give me a hunger for Your Word. Help me feed on what is true, nourishing, and life-giving, so I may grow strong in faith and stand firm in Your truth.
