A Study on the book of Ecclesiastes Chapters 3-4

ECCLESIASTES 3 – 4

Bible Study Notes Rev. Betsy Perkins

A Right Time for Everything

A Time for Everything  (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8):

  • What line of this poem especially caught your attention? Why?
  • How do you know the right time to plant corn? How do you know the right time to pick a tomato?
  • How do you know the right time to have a difficult conversation?
  • How do you know the right time for a major life change?
  • Read some verses about discernment: Jeremiah 6:16, Isaiah 30:21, Philippians 4:6-7. Any others?

Wisdom’s Call  (Proverbs 8:1-36):

  • What do we learn about Lady Wisdom in this passage?
  • Why should we listen to Wisdom’s call? How will it help us?
  • What role did wisdom play in creation (vs.22-30)?

Two Better Than One  (Ecclesiastes 4:7-12):

  • What problems does the Teacher see in verse 8?
  • What is the better or wiser way that the Teacher recommends? Why?
  • How have you experienced the wisdom of this passage in your own life?
  • Read James 1:5. Take a moment to pray…

In light of this passage and our discussion, what one truth about God and about yourself stand out as something to “take to heart” this week?

Are there steps you will take, by God’s grace, to more fully apply it to your life?
