2.8.26 Son of God, Son of Man

2.8.26 Son of God, Son of Man

Day 1 — “Do You Want to Get Well?”

📖 Scripture: John 5:1–6.

💭 Devotional Thought: Jesus approaches a man who has been disabled for 38 years and asks a question that seems unnecessary at first: “Do you want to get well?” Of course he does… right?  Sometimes Jesus asks questions that feel obvious because He’s after something deeper. Healing isn’t just about fixing what’s broken; it’s about confronting what we’ve grown comfortable with. After decades of living one way, change can feel risky — even frightening.

🪞 Reflection:  Jesus’ question invites honesty: Do I actually want transformation, or do I just want relief?  What might Jesus be uncovering in your heart when He asks this question? Is there something familiar — even broken — that you’ve learned to live with rather than surrender?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord, search my heart. Help me answer You honestly and give me the courage to accept the healing You offer, even when it means change. Amen.

Day 2 — Excuses or Obedience

📖 Scripture: John 5:7–8.

💭 Devotional Thought:  The man never actually answers Jesus’ question. Instead, he explains why healing hasn’t happened yet.  Excuses can feel safer than obedience. Dependency can feel more predictable than freedom.

Real healing means movement, risk, and trusting Jesus beyond what we’ve always known. Jesus doesn’t debate the excuses — He simply commands action: “Get up.”

🪞 Reflection:  Are there “reasons” you’ve been carrying that might actually be excuses? What would obedience look like if you trusted Jesus with the outcome?

🙏 Prayer:  Jesus, help me stop explaining and start trusting. Give me faith to obey even when I don’t have all the answers. Amen.

Day 3 — From Grace to Blame

📖 Scripture: John 5:9–13

💭 Devotional Thought:  After being healed, the man quickly shifts responsibility — “The man who healed me told me to.” Gratitude fades fast, replaced by blame. It’s an old story, going all the way back to Adam and Eve. It’s astonishing how quickly we can move from grace to blame. When obedience becomes inconvenient, gratitude can give way to self-preservation.

🪞 Reflection:  When things get uncomfortable, do you lean into gratitude or shift blame? How does remembering God’s grace reshape your response?

🙏 Prayer:  Father, guard my heart from forgetting Your grace. Teach me to live with thankfulness instead of defensiveness. Amen.

Day 4 — Who Is Jesus, Really?

📖 Scripture: John 5:14–27; Daniel 7:13–14.

💭 Devotional Thought:  The healing leads to a much bigger issue: Jesus’ identity. By calling God His Father and referring to Himself as the Son of Man, Jesus makes a claim that His listeners clearly understand — He is equal with God.

Son of God declares His divine nature. Son of Man points to the promised King from Daniel who will reign forever. Jesus is both fully God and fully man — the only One who can truly save.

🪞 Reflection:  How does understanding who He truly is shape the way you listen to Him and follow Him?

🙏 Prayer:  Jesus, help me see You clearly — not just as a helper, but as my Lord and King. I trust who You say You are. Amen.

Day 5 — Why Didn’t You Tell Me?

📖 Scripture: John 3:16; John 14:6; 1 Peter 3:15.

💭 Devotional Thought:  Knowing who Jesus is and what He’s done comes with responsibility. The Gospel is too good — and too urgent — to keep to ourselves. Love speaks. Hope explains. Faith tells the story.

Living the Gospel matters — but so do words. People can’t believe what they’ve never heard.  If we truly believe He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, how could we stay silent?

🪞 Reflection:  Who has God placed in your life that needs to hear the hope you carry? Are you prepared to speak — with gentleness and respect?

🙏 Prayer:  Lord, give me boldness rooted in love. Help me speak when You open the door and trust You with the results. Amen.
