4.27.25 Psalm 23 – The Lord is My Shepherd

4.27.25 Psalm 23 – The Lord is My Shepherd

Go deeper this week with this 5 day devotional:

Day 1: The LORD — Our Supreme Authority

Scripture:
Colossians 1:15-20
Romans 10:9

Devotional Thought:

The word “LORD” (all caps) refers to YHWH — the Creator, Ruler, and Supreme Authority. Recognizing Jesus as Lord is not optional if we truly follow Him. It’s easy to want Jesus as a Savior but ignore Him as Lord. Yet salvation is tied to both believing and submitting to His lordship.

Life Application:

Take time today to reflect: Is Jesus truly Lord over every part of your life — not just your Sundays, but your Monday through Saturday too? If not, surrender those areas to Him.

Reflection Question:

What part of my life have I been holding back from Jesus’ lordship?

Day 2: Is My — Belonging to God

Scripture:
John 14:15
John 15:9-13

Devotional Thought:

“My Shepherd” means belonging — not ownership but a deep relationship, based on love and trust. God calls you His child, His sheep, His beloved. Relationship with Him is the foundation of obedience.

Life Application:

Consider ways you can deepen your relationship with Jesus today, like setting aside time just to be with Him — not to get something, but just to enjoy Him.

Reflection Question:

How can I live today as someone who truly belongs to God?

Day 3: My Shepherd — Hearing His Voice

Scripture:
John 10:1-5, 14-16
John 1:12

Devotional Thought:

Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and His sheep know His voice. But in a noisy world full of lies and distractions, we must intentionally draw closer to hear Him. His voice speaks life, truth, love, and direction — but we have to learn His voice by spending time in His Word.

Life Application:

Set aside 10–15 minutes today to get quiet before God. No distractions. Read a portion of Scripture slowly, and ask Jesus to help you recognize His voice.

Reflection Question:

What “voices” (internal or external) do I need to tune out to better hear Jesus?

Day 4: I Shall Not Want — Trusting God’s Provision

Scripture:
Psalm 37:25
Philippians 4:11-13
Matthew 6:25-34

Devotional Thought:

When David says, “I shall not want,” he is expressing complete trust that God provides everything needed. Our Shepherd doesn’t promise every luxury, but He does promise every need will be met. Worry fades when we trust the Provider more than our circumstances.

Life Application:

Write down three specific needs you have today. Pray over them, entrusting them to God, and then look for ways He provides — sometimes through unexpected people or means!

Reflection Question:

How can I shift my focus from what I lack to the abundance God provides?

Day 5: Listening Softly — Staying Close to the Shepherd

Scripture:
James 4:8
Psalm 23:1 (again)

Devotional Thought:

The closer we are to Jesus, the clearer His voice becomes. Just like in a crowded room, you recognize the voice you know best. Stay close to the Good Shepherd through prayer, worship, and Scripture. When distractions grow loud, press even closer.

Life Application:

Plan a “quiet time” retreat today — even if it’s just 30 minutes. Get alone with God. Put away your phone. Bring your Bible and a journal. Ask, “Jesus, what are You speaking to me today?”

Reflection Question:

What can I do daily to stay closer to Jesus and hear Him more clearly?
